Welcome to Florence High School. Florence High School has approximately 960 students in grades 10-12.  Our student body’s ethnic demographics are sixty-six percent White, thirty-two percent Black, one percent Asian and one percent Hispanic.  Every year varies but we currently have nine foreign exchange students.

Summer Administration of AHSGE Scheduled

The summer administration of the Alabama High School Graduation Examination will take place at the Central Office according to this schedule: 

Monday, July 7, Language

Tuesday, July 8, Social Studies

Wednesday, July 9, Science

Thursday, July 10, Mathematics

Friday, July 11, Reading  

Students who were supposed to have graduated PRIOR TO the 2007 – 2008 school year are still required to pass all five subtests. Those who were supposed to have graduated in 2007 – 2008 (and thereafter) are required to pass Reading, Mathematics and one other (either Science, Language or Social Studies).

With this information in mind, students are encouraged to attend remediation sessions in the book room at the Central Office. Jennifer Lard and Nathan Sawyer, the remediation teachers at Florence High School, will be present in the Central Office to assist students with their remedial work, regardless of the subject area needed, according to this schedule: 

Monday, June 30, 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Tuesday, July 1, 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Wednesday, July 2, 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Thursday, July 3, 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.


 

 

New Summer School Check-In/Check-out Procedures

Dear Parents and Students,

As of Monday, June 30, 2008, the Check-In/Check-Out policy for summer school will be as follows:

  • Check-In between 8:03 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. will be counted tardy.  Check-In between 8:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. will be counted ˝-day absence. 

  • Check-In at after 10:00 a.m. will be counted a full-day absence.

  • Check-Out prior to 10:00 a.m. results in a full-day absence.  Check-Out after 10:00 a.m. results in a 1/2 day absence.

  •  Should a student check in on a given day, he/she will be counted absent for a full day if he/she checks out the same day.

FEES: $200 – students currently enrolled in Florence City Schools; $250 – students from other school systems

A student who failed two subjects in 2007-08 must attend summer school and successfully complete it in order to move to the next grade. 

NOTE:  Because of the new state requirement for all students in grades 9-12 to earn at least one unit in Physical Education, we are considering the offering of Physical Education in summer school if as many as 20 students enroll.

The $95.00 registration fee will be due no later than May 30, 2008.  The $400.00 deposit will be due by June 30, 2008, and the balance will be due in late December 2008.  After the $95.00 registration is paid, the remainder can be charged to a credit card.
