FHS Morning Announcements

  School Fees  

 -Senior fee deadline is 3pm Friday, May 4th.  Fees are due to your senior class sponsors: Janet Willingham and Dianne Vaughn                                       

CLUBS      

-The UNA Black Faculty and Staff Association will be hosting an Educational forum on Monday, Feb. 13, at 6p.m. at the  Guillot Performance Center.

-There will be an important SADD meeting on Tuesday morning, Feb. 14, at 7:15 in the Chorus Room. Members will be making preparations for the Anti- Bullying program.

 

-French club will be selling chocolate French kisses tomorrow through Friday in the commons during lunch for $1.00.  Kisses will be delivered on Valentine's Day 1st period.
 

-FHS Culinary will be taking orders for personalized Valentine Cookies on Tuesday, February 7 – Friday, February 10.  Cookies will be decorated and delivered to students during 7th and 8th period on Valentine’s Day, February 14.  Cookies are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00!  See Mrs. Carter or FHS Culinary students for details! 

 

- FCA will meet in room 67 every Wednesday at 7:20

-The Fishing Team will begin meeting EVERY MONDAY beginning next week. 

Guidance    

-Remember to file the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov as  soon as possible to be eligible for Financial Aid in the form of Grants, Loans, and Work Study programs.  FHS will have an opportunity on February 16 and February 17 for students to file the FAFSA during the lunch in our library.  If your child would like to participate, have him/her bring me the 2012-2013 worksheet completed with your family’s 2011 income information and I will hold on the this information until the workshop.  These worksheets are available in guidance. 

-Seniors interested in NWSCC scholarships, need to see Ms. Lovelace this week for applications and information (Feb.6-Feb.10).

-CAREER TECH SCHOLARSHIPS TO NW-SCC: Students interested need to pick up application information from CLEAR wall hanger by Mrs. Casteel’s office. TAKE NOTE:

1. You must have FAFSA completed to qualify. 2. You must have completed at least 2 credits within same CT Program with 80 or above average to qualify. ALL APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 3:15 FEB 29TH. NO EXCEPTIONS. Mrs. Casteel

 

-Attn Seniors! The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Scholarship Applications are available in Guidance.  The Deadline is March 2.  See Ms. Foote for an application.  For information contact Jimmy Shaw at jshaw@florencek12.org

-$1000 Best Buy Scholarships are available for Students in Grades 9-12.  See blue poster on scholarship bulletin board in commons for online site to apply. Deadline: February 15.

-Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarships will be available in Guidance beginning Tuesday, January 17th.  See Mrs. Foote.  Deadline: March 15th                                                                

-ATTENTION JUNIORS AND SENIORS who are creatively talented and are interested in winning $5000.  Please see Ms. Lovelace for details on a POSTER CONTEST.

-Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a student who submits the winning essay on a topic that appears on the web site: http://www.abbottandfenner.com/scholarships.htm. Full details are available on this site.  

-The National Academy of Engineering is sponsoring a Food Engineering Essay Contest for girls in grades 3-12 who are interested in engineering. Complete information is available at http://www.engineergirl.org/?id=14100. Win cash! 

-Any high school student may apply for the Keep the Shoals Beautiful $500 Scholarship. To be eligible, applicants apply for membership at www.keep the shoalsbeautiful.com  and must submit a typed 1,000 word limit essay entitled “What I have Done to Keep the Shoals Beautiful.” For information and an application see Ms. Riser in guidance.

-Eleventh graders who are interested in University of Alabama Early College may learn more information and apply for the program at uaearlycollege@ua.edu.

-11th Grader’s who are interested in attending the Georgia State University Housing Conference this summer should call 404-413-1996 or go to www.gsu.edu/housing/conferences.html

 

·         A list of all February and March Spring Scholarship Opportunities is on the Senior Feb/Mar Newsletter and can be found on the FHS Guidance Website under the links titled Seniors and Scholarships/Awards.  Hardcopies of the list are also available to seniors in guidance.

·         There will be a workshop for students needing help filling out the FAFSA for Financial Aid held during the lunch periods on February 16 and 17 here at FHS.  Interested students need to see Ms. Lovelace in the commons this week at lunch to sign up and receive information for the workshop.

·         All seniors interested in applying for a NWSCC Scholarship need to see Mrs. Foote and sign an interest  form.  Ms. Lovelace will also have the form available this week in the commons during lunches.

Athletics                  

-TONIGHT come out and support our  Falcon Men as they play Austin at Bob Jones at 6:00 in the Area Tournament.

- If you signed up to run Track this spring we will start conditioning at the track at 3:15.  You also need to start bringing in you participation and uniform fees.                        

"Any 10th - 12th grade girl who is interested in being a Diamond Girl for this spring’s baseball season may pick up a registration form from Coach Fowler in Room 52 or in the main office.  Diamond Girls are the official hostesses of Florence High School Baseball.  Registration will be open until Tuesday, February 14.

School Store            

-The FalconMart Store is open for business. We will have a variety of school supplies to sell. The store is located in the Business Department (Rooms 51&52). Operating hours will be 7:30 a.m. -7:45 a.m. and during lunch periods.
