Florence High School Mu Alpha Theta

Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society.  Requirements are:  Must have completed Geometry CB or Honors Geometry, Algebra II with Trig or Honors Algebra II with Trig and have completed or be enrolled in the second semester of Precalculus with Trig., Honors Precalculus with Trig or Algebra III/ Stats.  Students must have a 90 overall average in these mathematics courses and have an overall GPA of at least 85, must be enrolled in a math course and have distinguished themselves in the pursuit of mathematics.  Students are usually in their second semester of their junior year when they meet these requirements and we induct in the spring.

Any junior or senior student interested in applying for membership to the National Math Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, should see Mrs. Barnett in room 36 or Mrs. Griffith in room 34 for a list of requirements and for an application.  All completed applications must be returned by Friday, February 26, 2010, at 3:05 pm.

Florence High School participates each year in the American Scholastic Mathematics Association (ASMA) math competition.  This is a national contest that consists of six 35 minute tests that are given on Thursday mornings at 7:15 a.m.  The competition is open to any math student and is an excellent way for students to improve on test taking skills and problem solving abilities.  The dates for this year’s test are:

February 11

March 11
